How the Thai sausage came to Bavaria – a spicy anecdote
Apr 09, 2023
Stranded in Germany, a foreign country and a foreign culture, for love, I quickly missed my family, friends, the delicious original Thai dishes – and above all my sausage and chili specialties.
So I embarked on a long pilgrimage through countless grocery stores, butcher shops, and restaurants—always in a relentless search for enlightenment—but to no avail. My signature Thai chili pastes (namprik) and sausage were nowhere to be found.
I was on the verge of despair and was about to have to face the terrible fact, for better or for worse: a life without my Namprik and Thai sausage .
What a miserable existence! Close to tears, I told my husband about this tragedy. But to my surprise, he immediately had a solution.
My loving husband, a picture-perfect romantic, promptly gave me a meat grinder for Valentine's Day—complete with a sausage stuffer. True to the motto "Do it yourself!"
And what does a Thai woman do with such a thing in her hand?
Exactly! She makes sausage and chili pastes – according to an original Thai recipe. A delicacy from my homeland, produced right here in Bavaria.
The products were served at every event, every party, and every get-together. They quickly found enthusiastic gourmets demanding more. Not only Bavarian Thais longing for a taste of home, but also European friends who quickly fell in love with the exotic products.
And so the idea was born: Thai sausage and chili pastes "Made in Bavaria." A delicacy for everyone.
For our collaboration, we found a regional butcher who uses only the best quality meat from local farms that ensure sustainable and species-appropriate animal husbandry. And after a few "minor" stumbling blocks through the bureaucratic jungle, the project was finally done!
Today we proudly present Yak-Thai – the only place where you can find exquisite sausages and namprik made according to original Thai recipes.
